North Sea

North Sea highlights the immense biodiversity of the North Sea, urging viewers

to value and protect it. By illustrating the complex ecosystems and potential of marine life,

the film advocates for conservation, offering a hopeful vision for sustainable practices.

The central message is when we understand and respect the natural world, we can

address significant global challenges like climate change, food security, and bio-diversity loss.

North Sea inspires a collective effort to build a more sustainable &  thriving planet.

Introduction and Q&A with Mark Verkerk (director) and Peter van Rodijnen (cinematographer) – to be chaired by British Film Institute Sustainable Screen team.

This screening is in collaboration with the Sainsbury Centre's current programme of

exhibitions, which ask: Can the Seas Survive Us?

Charting a course through the story of the world’s oceans and the precarious future they may be heading

towards, three concurrent exhibitions - A World of Water, Darwin in Paradise Camp: Yuki Kihara, and Sea Inside

- examine the choices shaping our future due to climate change. Featuring contemporary art, historical paintings,

ancient atlases and maps from across the globe, the season explores humanity’s enduring and complex relationship

with the sea. A World of Water takes East Anglia’s deep maritime connections to the Low Countries of Europe

as its starting point to look at the human impact on the interconnected seas that shape our world of water.
